Chemistry 11, Unit 2, Review & Test

I usually give my students 1-2 classes to prepare for a test. I start by going over the topics that will be covered on the test. I usually ask students to go through their notes and come up with topics with me, then I write the list on the board as we go. I try to only write things down that are key topics to keep the list concise.

For The Mole unit, here is the list of topics:

  • Safety (SDS, Glassware)
  • Calculating density
  • Dimensional analysis (unit conversion)
  • Significant figures (required for all calculations)
  • Converting between particles and moles (Avogadro's number)
  • Calculating molar mass
  • Converting between grams and moles (molar mass)
  • Converting between volume of a gas at STP and moles
  • Using concentration as a conversion factor
  • Multi-step conversions involving any of the above

Once the topics have been laid out, I will give students a few options for studying:

  1. Create their own questions and quiz each other - this could involve flashcards or the creation of a Kahoot

  2. Create their own condensed notes on the topics

  3. Go over previous assignments to see what they got wrong

  4. Work through a review package

  5. Watch Youtube videos on the concepts (I usually take all the supplementary videos linked in the lessons and put them into a Google classroom post for students to go through)

I also allow students to bring one 5"x3" cue card with whatever they want written on it to the test with them. Deciding what is important enough to put on a card can be helpful for studying too! If you want to be extra nice, you could let them have the mole map with them as well.

There is two versions of a test with answer keys included in The Mole Notes product that covers all these topics.

Best of luck to your students!
